Aleksandar Sekulić, a Member of the Presidency of Montenegro’s Democratic People’s Party (DNP), said that the political processes of strengthening the idea of free Europe that commenced with Brexit will have a profound impact on future political processes in the EU.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Brexit may result in EU institutions reforms, aimed at making them more dedicated to citizens’ needs, Aleksandar Sekulić, a Member of the Presidency of Montenegro’s Democratic People’s Party (DNP), told Sputnik.

“I hope that the political processes of strengthening the idea of free Europe that commenced with Brexit will have a profound impact on future political processes in the EU, which would result in reform and convergence of institutions and functions of the EU towards its citizens, from which everyone in Europe would benefit,” he said.

On June 23, British voters took part in a referendum and decided to back a UK exit from the European Union, by 52 percent to 48 percent.
Following the vote, many European leaders, including the French president and the Italian prime minister, called on the need to implement reforms within the bloc, in order to make EU operations more flexible and transparent for the population.
